Dan Hibbard, 22, worked as a heating engineer but was furloughed during the first Covid lockdown.

Dan, from Harroagte, struggled to live on a tiny holiday allowance due to his low apprenticeship pay.

Together with his friend Aden from Knaresborough, Dan started a shoe storage box brand “Solecube” in his grandmother’s spare room.

Solecube boxes can be used to create fully customizable sneaker walls and towers.

Dan says the boxes also use UV technology to keep the sneakers the same color as when purchased.

Since launching his business, Dan has supplied Manchester United and Arsenal footballers as well as Tom Zanetti and rappers across the UK.

Solecube has been hit by Brexit delays and the effects of the pandemic, but Dan said business at The Yorkshire Post was now booming.

The pair now dream of becoming a global brand.

“My business partner and I met on Instagram during the first lockdown, we both have a passion for sneakers and fashion,” Dan shared.

“Times were tough so we talked about how we could make some extra money and we also realized we had nowhere to store our shoes so we thought why not make our own boxes .

“We got together and came up with the name and the idea for Solecube.

“We then started getting messages from rappers all over the UK including Potter Payper and Leeds MC Tom Zanetti and many other celebrities.

“We started out selling just a hundred boxes, but since then we’ve grown to thousands and order more each time we sell.”

Dan said YP stock was selling “within four weeks” of entering.

“The demand has been huge for our products,” he added.

“We both work full time and run it as a side business, but we love and appreciate it and want to keep growing it.

“We have big dreams and we want to take them to the top.”

The pair have boxes on sale in Status Sneakers in Leeds and other shopping centres.
