Colin Jost has revealed that his mother has finally come to terms with the name Cosmo, which he and his wife Scarlet Johansson chose for their newborn baby, after it took some time to adjust to this unique nickname.

During a recent appearance on Late at night with Seth Meyers, the Saturday Night Live star shared that her mother initially didn’t understand the name Cosmo. “My family is always very supportive,” he said in the episode. “My mother, I would say, was slightly upset by [the name] and I didn’t quite understand it. I don’t know if she thought it was kind of like a hippie thing?

She even offered the star couple alternative suggestions. “She would call us, after three or four days she would say:”Cosmos… ‘She would be like,’ And, now, is that final? Like, did you submit the birth certificate? ‘ And we were like, ‘Oh, yeah, we did it in the hospital,’ ”Jost explained. “She was like ‘Oh okay, interesting. Because I was reading that there is also a Cosimo name with an “I” so that could also be an option. Maybe you call him Cosimo, that’s his real name, but then you can still call him Cosmo. ‘”

However, over time, Cosmo’s grandmother made her peace with the name. “She lives in Staten Island, she finally started meeting various members of the Italian community who have a lot of Cosmo parents. So she would call and she would say, ‘I met someone, they said their uncle’s name is Cosmo. So everything is fine, ”Jost explained. “And I was like, ‘It’s locked. “”

Jost and Johansson tied the knot in October last year after dating since 2017. Last August, Jost announced the pregnancy on stage during a comedy show in Connecticut. “We’re having a baby,” he told the crowd. “It’s exciting.”

Baby Cosmo is the couple’s first child. Johansson has a daughter, Rose Dorothy Duariac, 6, whom she shares with her ex-husband, journalist Roman Duariac.
