Meet the sister duo behind Canadian footwear brand, Maguire

Montreal-based Maguire co-founders Myriam and Romy Belzile-Maguire have had one mission since launching their direct-to-consumer brand in 2017: to make luxury footwear user-friendly. For the sisters, this means ethical craftsmanship with family-owned factories in Europe, transparency on production costs and a welcoming and accessible shopping environment, designed to be above all a stress-free zone. With Myriam heading up design and Romy heading up strategy and marketing, keeping the business going means everyone is on deck for the duo and their small but mighty team of women.

With a mix of physical stores (Montreal and Toronto locations), e-commerce and pop-up stores across the country, their hybrid business model has enabled adaptability and growth even in the worst setbacks related to the pandemic. But as the saying goes, necessity is the mother of invention, and the sisters were quick to experiment, replicating online in-person services with features like a shoe sizing tool that helps customers find the perfect fit without having to walk into a store.

This May, Maguire celebrates its first international expansion, a permanent space in New York’s trendy Nolita neighborhood. In the spirit of standing out, the brand used a vibrant palette for its Spring/Summer collection – which is an homage to its signature styles – and also launched its first bridal shoes. Beyond plans to outfit the new flagship with locally designed hometown furniture and artwork, the sisters are also committed to recreating the same welcoming and intimate atmosphere for which they are known north of the border. “It’s the Canadian way of doing business,” says Romy.
