Nike Exec Larry Miller visits the family of his murder victim

Larry Miller is currently President of Jordan Brand.

In October, Jordan Brand Chairman Larry Miller told a harrowing story, detailing how he shot and killed another teenager in 1965 when he was just 16. At the time, Miller was part of a gang in West Philadelphia and his actions eventually led to a four and a half year prison sentence. From there, he served five more years for armed robbery.

When Miller came out, he was able to turn his life around and put himself in a position where he could help run one of the biggest sneaker brands in the world. While many found his story inspiring, his victim’s family were taken aback by how easily he was able to tell his story. Some publications gave the impression that Edward David White was a member of a rival gang when that was simply not the case. Instead, White was just an innocent bystander who fell victim to Miller’s recklessness.

According to The New York Times, Miller got to meet White’s family, including his sister, son, and even daughter. During this conversation, White’s family forgave Miller for his actions, although going forward, White’s sister will no longer associate with the chairman of Jordan Brand. However, last week Miller met with White’s children, this time to discuss a special scholarship fund for the victim’s family. The money from this scholarship would be funded so that future generations of the White family could get the best education possible.

In the report, it is stated that White’s family does not consider Miller a freak, however, they acknowledge that he likely has a lot of inner demons he has to deal with given his past actions. Either way, they all seem optimistic that Miller will do the right thing and keep his promise to create the scholarship fund.
