TikTok’s new trend involves a complex exchange of “dabloons” for imaginary goods and services

Unfortunately, TikTok’s fictional economy is already suffering the effects of inflation.

Did you wake each other up too ICT Tac offering you a cup of 10,000 “dabloons” in a way reminiscent of a fever dream, or are you normal?

As quickly as overnight, a trend that follows the line between cryptocurrency exchange and role play has taken over the social media platform, as it doesn’t appear to involve the actual exchange of funds, although duplicates are a legit form (but take that with a grain of salt salt) of crypto.

Instead, TikTokers are offering, stealing, and exchanging the so-called funds for fictitious goods, misrepresenting the FYP into what looks near-real.life game of Skyrim Where Dungeons and Dragons. Basically, this new virtual economy – which is run by cats, did we mention that already? –is the same.

User @britedragon, whose name is Alexis, according to their biography, has broken down the intricate structure of the game’s intricacies, so to speak. As imaginary currency took off this month, the world was built around the 4 Dabloons Cat, a meme that was posted on Instagram last year in reference to the cat’s four “toe beans”.

According to Alexis, throughout the last year people were organically collecting dabloons whenever they came across the image. For example, if you saw him four times, you had 16 dabloons.

Over the past few weeks, users have started uploading it to TikTok in a storyboard format, treating scrollers on the FYP like weary travelers and offering them burgers or a hot stew in exchange for – you guessed it – four dabs. Of the it snowballedwith users launching shops where only dabloons are accepted and others offering a few dabloons here and there to those who hadn’t yet developed their dabloon account, and even a few Nigerian Prince Scams for good measure. One user even edited a newsletter to offer updates on the ups and downs of the dabloon economy – it too is suffering from the effects of inflationby the way, while others shared their tips and tricks for budgeting (from a simple note app has a full excel spreadsheet—don’t forget to save some for tax season!).

Most users are thrilled with the camaraderie the new game has brought among TikTokers, though many are still puzzled.

“I saw a government full of dablon AND a revolution,” one user commented.

“Don’t forget the dabloon thieves!! I’ve been robbed twice now 😭 I need insurance,” another lamented.

But for those who just couldn’t understand, Alexis confirmed: “It’s all just an imaginary economy. functioning on an honor system lol.”

So if you want to participate in the new physical world, there is little pressure associated with it, but if you don’t, there is again no pressure. It’s just as fun to watch it unfold before your eyes!
